Discover you God-Given Calling
Have you ever wondered why God created you the way He did? The truth is—you were not made by accident. You were crafted for a purpose. God, in His wisdom and love, uniquely designed you with a set of gifts, experiences, and passions to fulfill a specific role in His Kingdom.
“For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” — Ephesians 2:10
In this blog, we’ll explore five powerful steps to help you discover your spiritual gifts, understand your calling, and begin living it out with boldness and faith. This is the same steps I use in my group and 1:1 coaching sessions to help Christian women find their God-given calling & purpose.
1. Understanding Your Identity in Christ
Before we can walk in our calling, we must first understand who we are in Christ.
Your identity is not defined by your past, your job title, or what others think—it is rooted in God’s truth.
“For You created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother’s womb... all the days ordained for me were written in Your book before one of them came to be.” — Psalm 139:13–16
God made you with intention. You are fully known, deeply loved, and wonderfully made.
Reflection Prompt:
What are some of the unique things God has placed in you—passions, talents, personality traits—that point toward His intentional design?
2. Discovering Your Spiritual Gifts
God gives each of us spiritual gifts that equip us to serve others and glorify Him. These gifts are clues to your calling!
One great way to start is by taking a free online spiritual gifts test. These assessments can help bring clarity and language to the ways God has already gifted you. Take a free test at www.giftstest.com
After the test, ask yourself:
- Do I agree with the results?
- Have I used these gifts before (even unintentionally)?
- How is God inviting me to use them now?
This step is all about recognition and activation—you already have the gifts. Now it’s time to use them.
3. Community in Discovering Your Calling
While discovering your purpose is personal, it’s not meant to be done alone. God often uses community to affirm your gifts, encourage your growth, and provide wise counsel.
“As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” — Proverbs 27:17
Sometimes, others can see our gifts more clearly than we can.
Action Step:
Ask 2–3 trusted people, “What gifts do you see in me?”
Write down what they share. You may be surprised and encouraged by their insight! I would love the opportunity to hear what your gifts are. Email me your top 5 gifts to info@meganonpurpose.com
4. Crafting Your Personal Mission Statement
As you reflect on your spiritual gifts and life experiences, it’s helpful to write a personal mission statement. This statement gives clarity and direction to how you believe God is calling you to serve.
“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” — James 1:5
Your mission statement should reflect your spiritual gifts, values, and the impact you feel called to make.
Template to Get You Started:
“My mission is to [use your gifts] to [serve or impact] by [specific action], so that [desired outcome aligned with God’s will].”
Need help writing it? I walk women through this exact process in both my 1:1 and group coaching sessions – reach out to connect on how you can join a session.
5. Living Out Your Calling
Once you have clarity, the final step is this: walk it out.
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord... It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” — Colossians 3:23–24
Living out your calling is not about perfection—it’s about faithfulness.
It starts with the small things. It grows through trust. And it’s sustained by the Holy Spirit.
Practical ways to start:
- Serve in a ministry or group that aligns with your gifts
- Encourage or mentor someone walking a similar journey
- Share your story—someone needs to hear it
- Stay connected to community and accountability
Final Encouragement
God didn’t just create you to exist—He created you to thrive in purpose.
You are equipped. You are chosen. You are called.
And the world needs what God has placed inside of you. 💛
